Festival Phénomena 2013

PHENOMENAL OCTOBER
October will be a crazy amazing month, especially with Festival Phenomena in Montreal.  I am pleased to be presenting a multitude of projects for the festival.

1] I am ecstatic to announce the Quebec Premiere of the film SMILE STEALERS in collaboration with Festival du nouveau cinéma [FNC]. After 4 long years, the film will finally be played in MTL where it all began. And we are cooking up a big performance event at Sala Rosa le 18 octobre, for the opening night of the festival: Join the FB event for INFO.

2] Egotrip Productions will be premiering a brand new multimedia Sci-Fi shadow puppet show at Sala Rosa: Tout inclus sur la Planet Rouge.  Arthur Desmarteaux and I are pleased to be sharing the stage with good friends Jesse Or and Max Kelly, who will be performing their new show The More of Everything Revival Hour - Lundi 21 octobre [more info soooon!]

3] I am also creating the video projections for La Mythologie Expliquee, a special tableaux vivants performance at Bain Saint-Michel, created by artistic director D.Kimm. [18, 19, 20 october]

ART CENSORSHIP

Property Inequity Security, Arthur Desmarteaux and Allison Moore 2011
[Digital print 6'x4']
I am currently exhibiting work with Arthur Desmarteaux in a group show "Supercalifragilisticexpiadocious" at the Musée d'art contemporain des laurentides, with Marjolaine BOUDUA, Bruno GAREAU, Mathieu LATULIPPE, Chloé LEFEBVRE et Martin LORD. Although I was initially enthusiastic to be invited for my first exhibition in a Contemporary Art Museum, my enthusiasm deflated a week after the opening when curator, Nathalie Dussault asked Arthur and I [on behalf of the museum] to REMOVE one of our works. The work, Property Inequity Security is a large format digital print illustrating a war in the desert and featuring mostly images found from the internet. the piece was apparently censored for its sexual content [and not the prominent violent scenes]. I must admit I was surprised when Christelle Renoux, responsible for the museums communications and education programming wanted to use this particular work for a mediation project with kids [did she look closely enough?]. And I can understand careful editing decisions on the curators behalf before a show is mounted, but to be asked to remove an artwork from exhibition after the opening is frankly rude. Especially since this artwork in particular was celebrated and well-received at the opening by Museum staff, press people and guests to the museum. I am left severely deceived by the art world and freedom of expression. The show is up until June 11.

Residency at Engramme QUEBEC CITY

Diaries From Metropolis, Arthur Desmarteaux & Allison Moore [2010]
Artist Arthur Desmarteaux and I were recently invited for a 2 week residency at Engramme Print Studios in Quebec City. We got to stay right in the heart of the Artist community in the Centre Meduse which straddles the New and Old City. We had a Great experience meeting amazing people and got a lot of work done. 4 [22x30"] Prints and 2 [11x15"] in 10 days! I calculated I washed out 20 screens or so. Got the biceps to prove it. Big thank you to Félix LeBlanc and Diane Fournier at Engramme for all their help getting us set up. Also big thanks to Pierrette Tremblay, and a few of the volunteer members for last minute help to get our installation up! MERCI! Work in progress to prepare for exhibition next month in Calgary.
